Elano Chaves

Elano Chaves (Fortaleza-1988) is a performer, trained in Acting at the Instituto Federal do Ceará and Contemporary Dance at the Instituto de Artes e Cultura do Ceará. His work is inspired by many artists, such as Fran Teixeira, Wilemara Barros and David Linhares (Brazil), João Fiadeiro (Portugal) and Maurice Durozier (France). He works across a variety of fields, including performance, video, lighting, new technologies, philosophy and event production, all of which are always staring on the contemporary dancing body. In particular, his work explores the relationship between the body-space-object and its symbolism, uniting a study of the sacred/ritual with the urban concept of the profane/quotidian. It is guided by “Dramaturgy of Happening”, when the meeting of people and materials they have to hand turns into a happening – an improvisation within the time and space of the present. He currently resides in Valparaíso (Chile).
